Why is this important?
A study done by the Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC) of education, University of Wisconsin-Madison supports the need for multicultural books written by authors of color. The CCBS documented the number of books they received written by and about African Americans and First/Native Nations. Out of 3,200 books received from publishing companies they received 90 books written by African-Americans and 265 about African- American; 8 books written by American Indians/ First nations and 35 about American Indians/ First Nations; 194 written by Asian Pacific/ Asian Pacific Americans and 224 about Asian Pacific/ Asian Pacific Americans, and 94 written by Latinos and 157 about Latinos in 2016.
